- very small magnifiers on stands to see the tiniest detail on stamps, coins, prints, photos, insects, plants etc. You would usually use a jewellers loupe or microscope for these very small items, but some people like the idea of a magnifier on a stand.
- slightly larger magnifiers on stands for working on very small objects (where you would use tweezers or the finest paintbrushes), or for inspecting small components.
- medium-size magnifiers on stands, just about large enough for working with a small clock, large PCB, small items of jewellery, and general hobby work if the items are small.
- specialist magnifiers that rest on the page, for the partially-sighted for reading.
