{Assembly}

To assemble, you must loosen a screw slightly, then gently slip the ball bearing of the stem into the horseshoe stand, then tighten the screw. It is very simple and we don't feel the need to include instructions. But we don't supply a screwdriver (cross-head). So if you really do not have a screwdriver or if you don't think you can loosen and tighten a screw, then perhaps give this one a miss and buy something else instead.

{Applications / Quality}

Generally, these are for 'working under' - with a long working distance so that you fit your hand(s) underneath, a high quality lenses to give a very sharp image, and a powerful light. And most of the lenses are large enough to see through with both eyes, so you maintain your stereo vision, which is essential when working in three dimensions, e.g. doing repairs.

Specifically, this isn't large enough to fit both hands underneath (for large items) but this is fine for working with small items such as jewellery, beads, very fine painting etc. Working distance is five inches. I have found another use, for myself, in the office. With my distance glasses I can just about read the computer monitor but can't see the tiny numbers on Royal Mail tracking stickers, so I place the sticker under the magnifier, and the magnifier is just the right size, not so large that it interferes with the other papers on the desk, but large enough to see the entire sticker.

{Alternatives}
Not quite what you were looking for? You want a magnifier that rests on the page for reading? We have a few of these, especially designed for the partially-sighted, see our rest-on-page magnifiers

Too large? Need a stand magnifier that is smaller (and more powerful). click here.

Not good enough?! Need a microscope? click here.

Almost right, but you DO need something considerably more powerful (a large single lens is ALWAYS low-power), AND it must still give stereo vision. Try the type of head-worn magnifier surgeons use. click here. These are good for watch repairing or for work on micro-circuits.
