{Summary}

When you buy a new probe for a gem tester, it (the tester) must be re-calibrated (it MUST be recalibrated, it will not work otherwise).

Read an article about calibrating the probes.

{Handheld model PGI}

With the handheld model (model PGI) it's quite easy, you will need the little metal calibration disc that came with the tester. If you can't find it, you will either need to buy another, or you can send the tester back to us and we'll calibrate it for you.

{Bench Models GEMTEST-P2 and GEMTEST-DUO}

With the two bench models (GEMTEST-P2 and GEMTEST-DUO) calibration is fiddly, it's easy to break the tester. If you are a working jeweller, electronics engineer or skilled craftsman who works with very small items, ask us for the instructions, do it yourself. Otherwise I strongly recommend that you send it back to us and we'll calibrate it for you. Here is some guidance:

IF YOU SEND US THE TESTER AND WE CALIBRATE IT FOR YOU

ADVANTAGES:
- we do all the work, we check that the tester is working correctly
- if the tester doesn't work with the new probe we can get a quote for repair (if it's out of guarantee) or we can send it back with the original probe, and in these circumstances we would not charge you for the postage.

DISADVANTAGES:
- if we calibrate it for you, we charge for the service.

IF YOU JUST BUY THE PROBE AND CALIBRATE IT YOURSELF

Advantages:
- it costs you less.
- you don't have to send us the tester, we can send the probe straight away.

DISADVANTAGES:
- it is very fiddly to calibrate (it could take you a few attempts) and easily broken.
- if you give up, you will have to send the tester back to us.
- if it turns out that the tester is faulty (nothing to do with the probe) and the tester is out of guarantee, we can get a quote for repair or we can return it to you un-repaired: either way, you must pay the postage.
