Another magnet. We have quite a few 'odd' sizes, not enough of each to merit putting on the web site, we will find you a nice one.

** This one nearly sold out! **

Round magnet with wooden handle for gold testing (i.e. if the metal is magnetic, it can't be gold or silver).

Only a few of this size remaining, once sold there are no more.

Standard, iron.

Diameter of magnet: 45mm, height (including handle): 65mm.

Nice large chunky magnet on nice polished wooden knob.

How does this compare with our our other (Neodymium) knob magnet? The Neodymium magniet is a third the size, twice as powerful and nearly twice the price.

This is a very low value item. We have a minimum order charge of 7.50 (6.25 + VAT). Is this the only item you require? You may wish to buy more than one, or add some other items to the order.

{Uses for testing}

Gold and silver are not magnetic. So when you are presented with dozens of items to test, save time by picking out all the items that are magnetic.

This does NOT mean that there are special magnets for testing gold and silver. If an item is NOT magnetic, it could be any one of hundreds of metals (including gold and silver).

Silver is strongly 'diamagnetic'. If you slide an appropriate magnet down a flat silver surface (e.g. a coin) it will move slowly instead of 'falling off'. Copper is slightly diamagnetic. See our 'magnets for silver testing' - a set of 3 magnet, a sample copper coin and instructions.

Copper is not magnetic, neither is brass (a mixture of copper and zinc) or bronze (a mixture of copper and mostly tin). A magnet is useful because many copper / bronze / brass items are really steel that has been plated and will (in most cases) be very magnetic. As with gold and silver: if an item is magnetic it is not solid copper / bronze / brass.

Magnets (pack of 4), encased in white plastic with hook

Ref: mag-sp-fe-30x5(hook)

{Summary}

Only a few of this size remaining, once sold there are no more.
PRICE IS FOR A PACK OF 4

Material: iron

Shape: round

Size: 30mm diameter X 5mm thick
(note, 30mm dia, much bigger than it appears in the photo against the coins!)

Price is for a pack of four.

We only have a few, once gone there are no more.

Smartly-presented, encased in white plastic, intended for shop displays but useful in any warehouse, store room or office. Attach it vertically (e.g. on the side of metal shelves) for hanging notices or small items; if you attach it horizontally (e.g. underneath a shelf) it is powerful enough to hang quite heavy objects.

{Uses. Tip.}

Originally designed for shop displays, these are also of use in warehouses and storerooms, in the office, even in the home for...all sorts of things.

TIP:
if you fix it vertically (e.g. on a wall) it works fine for hanging lightweight objects
but
if you fix it horizontally (e.g. on the underneath of a metal shelf) the force is several times stronger and you can hand heavy objects.

Magnet tester for silver

Magnet tester for silver

Silver is not magnetic. However it is 'diamagnetic' - a sliding magnet sets up an 'electrical field' which you can detect with suitable magnets.

These magnets are 'suitable' because of their size and power.

Read all about it!.

IMPORTANT

Copper reacts the same way as silver (though the effect isn't as strong), so this test will not tell you if you have a copper coin plated with silver. YOU STILL NEED A SILVER TESTER to be certain.
