{DETAILS}

Do you wear Spectacles? Do you have a prescription from an optician? Would you like us to make you some super-magnifying glasses for close work? Send the prescription and we will make them for you.

If you have some old spectacles you like, send them, we'll put new lenses in the frames, send the frames to: QUICKTEST, PO BOX 180, WATFORD, WD19 5JD. If you don't have any spare spectacles we can supply new frames.

These are better quality than any ready-made reading glasses, and more powerful too.

The maximum strength you can buy over the counter is 4.00D, that is 4.00 Dioptre (the measurement system opticians use). 4.00 is the equivalent (for anyone with normal sight) to 2X magnification. You may have seen ready made glasses advertised as 4X magnification but that simply isn't true, 4D is not 4X magnification, it is, for anyone with normal sight, 2X magnification.

You send us your prescription, we'll make them any strength you like.

Alternative item: zoom spectacles - one pair of spectacles, you can vary the magnification.

{WHICH STRENGTH?}

When you order, select a working distance. The closer you are to the object, the stronger the magnification.

Why working distance? Why not 'magnification'?

We speak of "X magnification", e.g. a lens will make objects appear 3X larger than normal, or 4X larger than normal. But 'normal' varies from person to person. Therefore 'magnification' isn't the same for everyone. Working distance, however, is fixed. If you want us to make you lens that gets you to within 80mm of the object, that 80mm will be 80mm.

For those with normal eyesight working distance and magnification convert like this:

150mm = 1.7X magnification, as if you are getting 1.7X closer to the object than 'normal'

120mm = 2X magnification, as if you are getting 2X closer to the object than 'normal'

100mm = 2.5X magnification, as if you are getting 2.5 closer to the object than 'normal'

80mm = 3X magnification, as if you are getting 3X closer to the object than 'normal'

65mm = 4X magnification, as if you are getting 4X closer to the object than 'normal'
- be aware that, this close, you probably won't be able to use both eyes at once

50mm inch = 5X magnification, as if you are getting 5X closer to the object than 'normal'
- be aware that, this close, you won't be able to use both eyes at once

40mm inch = 6.5X magnification, as if you are getting 6.5X closer to the object than 'normal'
- be aware that, this close, you won't be able to use both eyes at once

HOWEVER, the reason you wear spectacles is that your vision isn't 'normal', so none of the above magnifications will apply to you. That is why we ask you to tell us how far away from the object you want to work, and the lens-maker will 'adjust' the strength of the lenses (allowing for your prescription) so that you are working at the working distance you have chosen.

{WHAT NEXT?}

Buy it (i.e. like any other web site), select the working distance you require, select a frame if required, add to basket, fill in your details, pay for it.

Email us your prescription.
- providing it's a simple prescription we will accept your money and confirm the order
- if there's a reason the lens-maker can't make the lenses (due to a complex prescription) we will not accept the money (no money will be taken from your card) and will tell you that the order has been cancelled.

These have to be made for you, dispatch is 10 to 14 days from when we receive the prescription.

{IMPORTANT}

We are selling these for the purposes of high magnification for very close work, in place of a 'magnifying glass' not as general purpose distance or reading spectacles. Do not use them for any other purpose, you will bump into things, fall over, crash the car...

If you have any problems or concerns about your eyesight you must see an optician or doctor, we are not opticians, we cannot advise you on your prescription or eye condition.

Since these are made to order, our usual "return anything you don't like in 14 days" policy does not apply - they may not be returned.
