General
For reading laser-inscriptions around the edge (girdle) of diamonds. In the photos we have used a micro-measuring scale instead of a diamond ring, each division is 1mm.
For mounted rings, insert the ring shank into the foam until the girdle is level with the lens, turn the knob until the lens is close to the girdle and in focus (this distance determines the magnification). For loose stones there is a stone-holders.
Customers ask: what is the difference between this (HJ1000-VID) and the HAD microscope (£575.00); at only £169.00 how well does this one work? Unlike the HAD this one doesn't have a fine adjustment for the stage (you fiddle with the ring in the foam until it's the right height); the focus mechanism isn't as smooth, there's no option for mains power; the light isn't dimmable; there are no instructions (though it's not hard to work out); and the image on the monitor isn't as sharp. But the answer to the original question is: it works, it works fine!
Technical
Magnification officially 50X - 1000X. But the magnification will be fixed according to how far away image (laser-engraving) is from the lens, probably about 50X. Forget about high magnification, you won't be able to read anything at all at hight magnification.
Monitor: 4 inch
Power: 3 X AA batteries.
Included:
- adjustable (swan-neck) light
- ring stand and a stone-holding stand
- USB cable for connecting to a computer
