Head is 35mm diameter X 90mm wide ((1.5 X 3.5 inches), it's for 'bashing' gold or silver items without marking them, e.g. if you are making a squashed ring round by pushing-and-bashing it on a ring mandrel.
It is better to use the traditional hide mallet (safer for the jewellery - you can hit harder and know you cannot damage the metal) - but if you don't like the idea of using an animal product, then this nylon version is fine.
