I know this isn't 'pliers' but people often ask for 'special' pliers for lifting the claws on rings, to retrieve the stone before scrapping the gold.
This simple gadget is far simpler than using pliers.
Even if you don't want to 'collect' the stones, you will find that the smelter doesn't want stones included with the scrap.
