General
For reading laser-inscriptions around the edge (girdle) of diamonds. For mounted rings, insert the ring shank into the foam, raise the stage until the girdle is level with the lens, turn the knob until the lens is close to the girdle and in focus (this distance determines the magnification). For loose stones there are a couple of stone-holders.
The adjustable light is dimmable (easier to get a perfectly-exposed image without having to fiddle with the exact angle of the light); there's a QR code to download the instruction manual; the stage (where the ring/stone sits) can be raised up and down for easy alignment with the lens.
We lent one of these (for evaluation) to a diamond dealer; he already had the best loupes, he already had a good (over £1000.00) gemmological microscope...and he was so impressed with the quality of the HAD that he immediately bought one. It's not that this microscope simply, "works fine", it's the quality of the image on the screen that is so impressive.
Technical
Magnification officially 50X - 1000X. But the magnification will be fixed according to how far away image (laser-engraving) is from the lens, probably about 50X. Forget about high magnification, you won't be able to read anything at all at hight magnification.

- adjustable (swan-neck) light (dimmable)
