Summary
8X35
8X magnification, 35mm diameter
Can be used as a handheld magnifier, but it is also designed so that it can rest on the page (more comfortable for prolonged reading). Very bright LED light.
Comments
From the German optical company Schweizer.
A small illuminated reading magnifier with a very high magnification, designed for those with the most severe eye conditions. Unlike the larger sizes of Schweizer, you need to move your eye close to the lens, and you will only see one or two words at a time - HOWEVER, the clarity of the lens and the brightness of the light will enable many nearly-blind users to read.
Also good for very detailed examination of stamps and coins, small negatives, PCBs and other specialist work.
The photo of what you will see through the lens is a 'true' photo, it has not been enhanced (i.e. the text really does appear that large and that clear).
Technical
Magnification / lens size in mm: 8X35
Field of view* Vertically: 3 or 4 lines. Horizontally: 2 or 3 words.
Overall size: 220mm X 65mm X 40mm
Light: LED
Lens material: Plastic
Origin / brand: from Schweizer, Germany
Presentation / extras: box
The magnifiers are brand new / mint condition, the boxes are a bit scuffed.
Power: three AA batteries (supplied)
* Want a wider field of view? Try a lower magnification. Field of view and magnification are connected, that's the way handheld lenses work, there is no choice, it's a 'rule' of optics, the higher the magnification the narrower the field of view.
Price/availability
Why is the price is so low? (the retail price is over £60.00).
Because we bought a 'job lot' of Schweizer magnifiers from a large company - they bought them from Schweizer (i.e. these ARE genuine!) then decided not to deal in optics.
We have less than 100 of these, once they have gone there will be no more!
