Summary
Must be used in combination with a diamond tester, i.e. if a simple (thermal conductivity) diamond tester says the stone might be diamond or Moissanite (you won't know which!), test it on this to see if it's Moissanite.
Accuracy / Guarantee
A 'Moissanite' reading on this tester indicates that there's a high probability that the stone is Moissanite. It is not guaranteed, the latest Moissanites will show up as diamond on this tester. For instance, the slightest layer of grease on the stone (e.g. by touching it with your finger) will give incorrect results. The 1-year guarantee covers breakdown, it does not guarantee accuracy.
All testers have their limitations, see our article about how to choose a diamond tester.

Disclaimer
All testers must be used in conjunction with the user's skill, knowledge and experience. Under no circumstances shall QUICKTEST be liable for direct or indirect loss sustained in connection with any item. Nothing is 100% accurate, you must understand the limitations of any tester you buy. We also suggest you regularly test known samples to check for any obvious faults. Alternatives
Please note, none of these testers will distinguish natural stones from synthetic stones. "Synthetic" is a scientific term meaning 'made by man in a factory/laboratory to the same formula found in nature'. The two are usually indistinguishable, synthetic diamond is diamond (read about synthetic diamond testers and see our ARI and ARETE models).
The testers below are to distinguish diamond from non-diamond (simulant/imitation).

Hundreds of stones [4] |
[1] All testers test loose stones but not all can test mounted (set in jewellery) stones.
[2] The probe / analogue meter will test mounted stones, the digital meter will only test loose stones.
[3] The probe / analogue meter: 17 stones; the digital meter: 40 stones.
[4] Skill and practice is required to use an optical refractometer, instructions are not included, see any textbook about gemmology…or the internet.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Ask a Question-
How accurate is this tester
It's not "accurate" in the sense of simply lighting up with a correct answer. It will tell you if a stone is electrically conductive and you have to understand natural diamonds, synthetic diamonds and Moissanite to know how likely this is. For the full technical detail see our ARTICLE ABOUT DIAMOND TESTERS.
If you find this too complicated, our best advice is - do not buy one of these testers!
And if you see one advertised that gives a 'guarantee' yes-or-no answer, send me the URL and I'll give you our expert opinion.

Hello, What is the guarantee period for this tester. Thank You. Tim
One year.

Can you test for diamonds and semiprecious stones?
No. This is a Moissanite tester.
If you have a cheap diamond tester, Moissanite will show up as 'diamond' and so you will need a special tester (e.g. this one) to see if it is Moissanite.
For testing diamonds see our guide to diamond testers.
Quite separately, for testing gemstones see our guide to electronic gemstone testers.
